Around Inverness
Aviemore is very popular, for ski-ing and snowboarding in the Winter/Spring and for water sports, walking or cycling all year round. Families will love a day at Landmark, an adventure playground and outdor experience that is popular all year round with local parties also.
The Cairngorm National Park is situated in this area. Nature lovers will find lots to occupy them, including the Osprey Nests at Loch Garten.
Kincraig Wildlife Park, an outreach of Edinburgh Zoo near Kingussie, hosts two polar bears and other exotic beasts as well as native Highland species, like highland cows and wild cats. This is a fabulous day out on its own, with staff conducting tours of the Park and being on hand to consult.
The Kingussie Folk Museum gives an insight to the way of life in the Highlands in earlier times. Often our visitors join the Whisky Trail, touring the many local distilleries. Whisky is, of course, one of the Highlands biggest exports and you can be assured of a taste while you look around.
Another spectacle is a look at Baxter’s complex. The famous soup makers are responsible for so much more and have re-created original shops and rooms which show how it all used to be done.
If you are a golfer you are spoiled for choice in this part of the country. From the Castle Stuart golf course, home to the Scottish Open for the third year, to Spey Valley, Nairn West and Nairn Dunbar, Lossiemouth Old Course etc. there is plenty of choice of hidden treasures that will delight you. Grantown, Boat of Garten and Newtonmore golf courses will also delight with their scenic panoramas.
